Hi
When I stayed in Paris for 5 nights back in March of 2005, I found an incredibly wondeful deal of approx 30Euro’s a nite (which was a single w/ shared bathroom). It was an old bldg (from the 1600’s) so it definitely wasn’t any place fancy but it had alot of charm, and you can’t beat the location. (Its a hotel for travelers, not tourists.. so don’t be expecting an Americanized hotel) It was on Ile de la Cite, right off of Pont Neuf Bridge. The absolute best location in the city I feel. Its right between Notre Dame and the Louvre.
Its called Hotel Henri IV.
The only issue is trying to make a reservation.. As they didn’t have a website and you could only reserve by sending them a deposit.. which they wanted not only in Euro’s but from a French bank. My deposit originated from a German bank so they couldn’t cash it?!? But they still kept my reservation…. So if you can get the reservation, definitely stay there. If you get a double room (w/ private bath), you’ll probably get one of the lovely rooms that look right out onto Place Dauphine.
And they serve breakfast…. croissants w/ jam and either coffee or hot chocolate.
I wrote a review on Tripadvisor, and included pictures. Link below.
My review is titled "If you’re able to make a reservation, then expect a unique jem in perfect location” and it was posted March 18, 2005
Also my backup hotel was going to be Hotel Esmeralda, you might also want to check this out.
If you don’t like either recommendation, I suggest you check out the website eurocheapo.com. Which is where I found both of the hotels I’ve mentioned to you.
Good luck!!
And I envy you!! I want to go back!
