How do you ensure an awful house guest doesn’t come back?

November 152009

I’ve had my cousin staying with me about a week, there’s 3 more days and I’m about ready to strangle her…She’s been the guest from hell. How do I ensure she won’t come back? Or respectfully let her know I don’t appreciate her attitude or behavior?

PQ- How hard is it to keep your kids on a schedule while traveling or while having guests stay at your house?
She was NEVER invited…She invited herself and assured me it was only 2-3 days…

i’ve had one of those.
on her last day with us, i told her that there were a few things i didn’t appreciate about her stay. she didn’t take it lightly. she stormed out and never came back.
the truth hurts…but it does make our lives easier. :P

Can a person that owns a house that a guest house is added sell each home separately?

November 72009

The houses are not attached. The large home faces one street and a 2nd smaller apartment was added over the double car garage and faces the other street. The houses do not share gas, electricity, water, but they are on the same sewer line. If anyone can give me information on this I would really appreciate it!

It is doubtful that you can subdivide it. It has to do with lot lines and the required distances from each other. Subdivide is also VERY costly, you will pay huge fees for teh rezoning and drawing of many many maps.

A former care home in Plymouth [UK] became a guest house in the TV programme Under the Hammer. Where is it?

November 22009

My mum saw the programme Under the Hammer where a former care home in Plymouth was bought and turned into a guest house. My mum has decided that she would like to stay in this guest house when she comes to visit me in Plymouth, but she can’t remember exactly where the property was or what it was called, although she thinks it was near to the university. Does anyone know either the name of the former care home, or the street the property is on, or the name of the guest house it became? Thanks

There is a link here where you can contact the makers of the programme…

adding a bathroom to a guest house?

October 282009

its a small house that is being used as more of a music room where we can crank music up without disturbing people. there isnt a bathroom curently. i mainly want it to be used for peeing just so people dont have to walk to the house. would it be wrong to just add a door with a small fenced in area (privacy fence) for people to just pee there instead of having to put ina water line?

Really Gross

If you’re vegetarian, is it rude to refuse meat you’re offered at a guest’s house?

October 262009

I was brought up learning it’s extremely rude to refuse what you’re offered at a guest’s house and it’s rude to their cooking.
Etiquette question.
I’m Persian, and all my relatives (who LOVE to cook) are very offended when I don’t eat the meat they serve. They always take it personally, then they gossip (because persians gossip so much) about that odd girl who refuses to eat their food.

This may not be a popular answer – but since you are talking about family and the culture that you are – - have you thought about just taking a small portion of it – VERY SMALL portion of it – and sort of shred it up and leave it mixed in with other things on your plate that are going to be left over and not eaten so that they won’t know that you didn’t really eat it??

It is a trick that I learned years ago from being with the military and having to be and eat in places that – - one wouldn’t normally eat what is presented to them – - and you could help them ’save face’ and you don’t insult them sort of approach that might work for you in such family situations.

You do indeed have a very tricky and sticky situation with this one. Hope you figure it out and keep peace within the family.

Renting apartment as company guest house?

October 242009

Are there any issues in renting an apartment to a software company as a guest house for their employees? How is it different from renting to an individual?

You can charge double what you would charge an ordinary person and you are virtually guaranteed prompt regular payments
