Before my house was completed, I always stayed in John Hay and I agree it is simply the best. But John Hay Manor rooms are more expensive than your budget, except every July-Sep when they go 50% off via a "second night free" promo year on year. One time the hotel was full, I was referred to the second best hotel. The place is called South Drive Manor. It is also nice and clean, the rooms are a bit cheaper and will be within your budget. The rooms are smaller, but just as clean and as nice. The coffee shop is also pretty and you have a view of tall pine trees when you sit, plus a working fire place within the resturant / lobby at night. And it is also quite close to the John Hay Manor.
